LEARNING
& TRAINING TECHNOLOGY LABS
Educators and trainers are having to consider and evaluate emerging
technologies to choose the most appropriate and effective method for program and
course delivery. Contact North/Contact Nord offers its two Learning
& Training Technology Labs, located in Sudbury and Thunder Bay, to
practitioners for experimentation and learning.
Advances in communications technology represent the most significant
potential for simultaneously improving the quality of student learning,
increasing access to education and training, and containing the costs of
instruction. The Labs provide the vehicle for educators and trainers to learn
about new developments in this rapidly changing field. This may involve tasks as
varied as learning how to operate scanners or digital cameras, manipulating
software to create or alter graphic images, designing and developing
instructional materials with new technologies, or becoming familiar with
software for managing the logistics of entire courses.
The labs provide the hardware and software for applied research in advanced
technology applications to learning and instruction. The Labs also illustrate
the power of public-private partnerships. Currently, the 11 organizations listed
below have partnered with Contact North/Contact Nord to support our Labs.
These partners represent enormous benefits to learners using the Labs as well
as to the private companies who are able to work creatively and directly with
the target populations for whom their software and hardware is intended.
In addition, organizations in health, government, business and industry, as
well as Northern Ontario residents are exploring the information highway for low
costs, accessible communications solutions for health care education and
delivery, consultation and diagnosis, administration, research, and project
management. Our Labs help facilitate these developments through the advancement
and dissemination of a broad range of knowledge dealing with information
technology.
