Debra Betty is Vice-President Northeast Region, Contact North/Contact Nord, Northern Ontario’s Distance Education & Training Network. 

An executive and leader specializing in technology and distance education, Debra has been with Contact North/Contact Nord for more than sixteen years serving in a variety of positions with increasing responsibility. Prior to her appointment as Vice-President in August 2000, Debra served as Director of Northeast Region, Manager of Operations and Client Services, and Administrative Services Officer.

In addition to her responsibilities as Vice-President, Debra also serves as the Network’s Director, Marketing.

During her sixteen years with Contact North/Contact Nord, Debra has played a guiding role in the identification of the educational support needs of various groups of clientele and developed a wide variety of services to meet those needs. She has been instrumental in the expansion of Contact North/Contact Nord’s Network of 145 Distance Education & Training Access Centres across Northern Ontario and she has developed successful marketing strategies to promote distance education across Northern Ontario that have resulted in a record number of course registrations for the Network in 2001 - 2002.

During this time, Debra was responsible for the development of the first website for Contact North/Contact Nord. The website has since grown to become a significant marketing tool for the Network and distance education in Northern Ontario.

Debra possesses an Ontario Management Development Certificate from Cambrian College and has completed the Marketing for Executives Program from Queen’s University School of Business.

A life-long resident of Sudbury, Debra enjoys making a contribution to her community. She is actively involved in the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers and has volunteered with numerous non-profit organizations including the Sudbury Good Neighbours Association. Debra has also served as Board Chair of the Mid-North Network for the Coordination and Development of Adult Learning.

In February 2005, Debra participated in a humanitarian mission in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica. As a member of a team of 17 Canadians, Debra helped raise funds for building materials, assisted in the construction of new homes, and worked to improve basic living conditions in the impoverished area.
