CONTACT NORTH/CONTACT NORD TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL SUMMIT ON INNOVATION AND LEARNING
Maxim Jean-Louis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Contact North/Contact Nord, has been invited by the Honourable Allan Rock, Minister of Industry and the Honourable Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources – Development Canada, to participate in the Government of Canada’s National Summit on Innovation and Learning, to be held November 18 and 19, 2002, at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle.
Approximately 400 delegates from academia, research organizations, the economic sector, governments, non-governmental organizations and the private business sector, from across Canada, have been selected to participate.
In February of this year, the federal government launched Canada’s Innovation Strategy, which outlined the government’s plans for innovation. The National Summit on Innovation and Learning follows the series of consultations that have been held across the country on the Innovation Strategy. The Summit will bring the delegates together to review and address the five overarching themes that emerged during the consultations: R&D and Commercialization, Inclusive and Skilled Workforce, Innovation Environment, Strengthening Communities and Learning.
"The future and vitality of Northern Ontario depend on an ongoing commitment to innovative ideas and emerging technologies from a broad spectrum of groups and individuals. For its part, Contact North/Contact Nord strives to incorporate the latest technologies into its Network to ensure access to education and training opportunities by all the residents of Northern Ontario. Canada’s Innovation Strategy and the National Summit on Innovation and Learning help us to identify, and to meet, the challenges inherent in our knowledge-based economy", comments Jean-Louis.
As Northern Ontario’s Distance Education & Training Network established, governed and administered by Northerners, Contact North/Contact Nord’s mission is to increase and improve affordable and equitable access to quality education and training for Northern Ontario residents, to support regional and community economic development and to promote a culture of lifelong learning.
