CONTACT NORTH/CONTACT NORD PRESIDENT AND CEO APPOINTED TO THE CHAIR OF MANAGEMENT BOARD’S ADVISORY COUNCIL ON E-GOVERNMENT IN ONTARIO

Maxim Jean-Louis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Contact North/Contact Nord, has been appointed by the Honourable David Tsubouchi to the Management Board’s Advisory Council on e-Government.

Other members of the Management Board’s Advisory Council include: Dr. Ann Cavoukian, Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario; Gaylen Duncan, President and CEO of ITAC, the Information Technology Association of Canada; Greg R. Georgeff, Corporate Chief Information Officer for the Government of Ontario; David Johnston, President of the University of Waterloo; N. Arthur Smith, President and CEO of The Electronic Commerce Council of Canada; Catherine Swift, Chair of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business; and Darla Scott also from Northern Ontario.

The Advisory Council on e-Government will look at transforming all aspects of the government’s business through the effective use of Information and Information Technology (I&IT). The goal is to make Ontario even more attractive as a place to live, work, learn, visit and do business.

One of the major I&IT-enabled sectoral initiatives is the Ontario Knowledge Network for Learning – a comprehensive vision and strategy for technology-enabled learning across the province striving to create a culture of lifelong learning. "This building block of e-Government is an important component of Contact North/Contact Nord’s continued growth and vitality. Our state-of-the-art audio and videoconferencing Network, reaching residents in more than 100 small and remote communities throughout Northern Ontario, could be an important and cost-effective tool to fulfill the e-Government’s initiatives in distance and lifelong learning", comments Jean-Louis.

Last year, the Government of Ontario also appointed Mr. Jean-Louis Chair of Ontario’s Francophone Early Years Steering Committee. He was recently appointed by the Government of Canada to the newly established National Citizenship and Immigration Canada-Francophone Minorities Steering Committee.

As Northern Ontario’s Distance Education & Training Network established, governed and administered by Northerners, Contact North/Contact Nord’s mission is to increase and improve affordable and equitable access to quality education and training for Northern Ontario residents, to support regional and community economic development and to promote a culture of lifelong learning.
