Educational Partners And Contact North/ Contact Nord Team up to Offer the Muskoka Region New Educational and Training Opportunities

Contact North/Contact Nord, Northern Ontario’s Distance Education & Training Network, is pleased to announce the opening of a Distance Education & Training Access Centre in Bracebridge.

The network’s new Centre will be located at the Nipissing/Georgian Muskoka Campus, 440 Ecclestone Drive, Bracebridge.

Debra Betty, Contact North/Contact Nord’s Vice-President, says, "We are very excited about servicing Northern Ontario’s newest region. Residents will witness first-hand how the network’s technology can offer them additional educational and training opportunities. The Muskoka region will now have access to secondary school and post-secondary programs and courses via audioconferencing and audiographics."

"The centre will be staffed on a part-time basis by a Local Teleconference Assistant. This person will provide technical assistance during audioconferences, invigilate exams/tests, and provide information on distance education opportunities," adds Betty.

Residents from this area requesting more information on the programs and courses offered via Contact North/Contact Nord, can contact 1-800-561-2222 for their copy of Bridging the North Fall 2001 course list.

Jan Lucy, Campus Administrator, Nipissing University, Muskoka Campus, comments, "We know the kind of influence that Contact North/Contact Nord can have on a community and on the lives of today’s learners. Nipissing University is a long-standing educational partner of the network and we are very pleased that this technology will be accessible to the residents of Bracebridge and the Muskoka region."

Eleanor A. Coulson, Campus Manager, Georgian College, Muskoka Campus, adds, "Having Contact North/Contact Nord on the same campus will assist us in becoming an educational partner and soon offer programs and courses via audioconferencing to the residents of the North."

"We think it is extremely important that residents of Northern Ontario’s small and remote communities have access to all educational and training opportunities. Having this kind of technology close by will encourage us to develop such opportunities," says Coulson.
