Burk’s Falls welcomes
Contact North/Contact
Nord
Official opening of community centre at Life Experience Alternative School
Contact North/Contact Nord, Canada's largest distance education network, is pleased to announce the opening of its Participating Centre in Burk’s Falls.
Contact North/Contact Nord provides access to education and training opportunities to Northern Ontario residents by working in partnership with communities across the North.
"We are very pleased to be working with the Life Experience Alternative School which has contributed facilities to house the technology required for access to the network," says Debra Betty, Director, Northeast Region. "Residents of Burk's Falls and the surrounding area will now have an opportunity to access secondary school and postsecondary courses and programs offered by educational institutions, without having to travel beyond Burk's Falls."
"Staff at the centre will help with course registration, provide assistance during teleconferences, invigilate exams or tests, and provide information on distance education opportunities," says Betty. The centre will be staffed on a part-time basis by a Local Teleconference Assistant.
For over 12 years, Contact North/Contact Nord has continued to provide access for many thousands of learners to secondary school and postsecondary courses and programs, in English and French, in small and remote communities. By using teleconference, audiographic and videoconference technologies, the Contact North/Contact Nord network serves not only the educational sector, but is increasingly being used by public and private sector organizations conducting their business at a distance. In a recent nine-month period, for example, the Contact North/ Contact Nord client list exceeded 160 colleges, universities, schools, government agencies and offices, community and non-profit organizations, and private sector organizations.
