Videoconference Classes Contact North

Many of Contact North’s Access Centres are equipped with videoconferencing equipment that allows you to access the Videoconference Classes and bring the rich features of the videoconferencing into your education experience.

What does this really mean for you, the student?

  • Videoconference virtual classrooms at Contact North are state of the art and very easy to use.  The room usually consists of two large flat screen televisions a desk top microphone and a desk or table.
  • In videoconferencing technology, two or more people at different locations can see and hear each other at the time.
  • At a set time, usually 5 to 10 minutes before class begins, you the student arrive for class at one of our Access Centres located across Northern Ontario and are connected by a helpful Contact North staff member.
  • Once connected, you will see yourself on one screen and the instructor on the other.
  • The system is voice activated.  This means that when one of your fellow students, located in another community speaks the screen, which use to host the instructor changes and you now view your fellow student.
  • With the assistance of other technology, the instructor can share files, and write out equations just like on a black board or overhead in the classroom.
  • Videoconference classes are fun, interactive and are appealing to a variety of different learning styles.  The visual connection and interaction among participants enhance understanding and allow the instructor and students to feel connected to each other.
